| For over
three generations the Fresina family has proudly displayed our
passion for a heritage rich in old world cultural values, work
ethic, faith, family devotion and sheer joy of life. Our
Italian American "Louisiana" roots trace back to the 18th
century where many of our ancestors, who were involved in the
citrus trade in Italy, quickly filled the labor shortage on
Louisiana plantations in the years immediately following the
unification of Italy. |

| While many
of the laborers would return back to Italy at the end of harvest
season, those who stayed sought occupational independence from
plantations. A number of those who remained naturally gravitated
to the port of New Orleans and cities in surrounding areas.
Drawn to the sub-tropical climate, Catholic religion and an
appetite for food and drink comparable to that of their
homeland, the Fresinas were an integral part of this migration. |

In 1926, Fresina Macaroni Manufacturing Company was born in the
crescent city of New Orleans. We have since relocated to Baton
Rouge, the capital city of Louisiana and evolved into what is
now called Fresina Pasta Company and Italian Specialties.
Remaining true to our Italian heritage, Fresina’s is still
family owned and operated, we still import the very finest
specialty products that Italy has to offer, and we still make
our pasta by hand using the “delicate” method developed
centuries ago in our home land of Palermo, Sicily. In fact, we
invite patrons to come by and actually watch this time-honored
pasta-making process in action while browsing through the many
European treasures found in our retail gourmet shop.

Plans are currently underway for the creation of an Italian
cultural facility where, in addition to our Pasta Company and
Gourmet Retail Shop, lessons in Italian art, language, cooking,
music, dining and a multitude of authentic cultural nuances will
be available under one roof. Fresina’s welcomes everyone who
would like to learn about and experience the unique, captivating
and intriguing lifestyle of true Italia. The Italians have
a saying, “molti ciottioli fanno una montagna”: many pebbles
make a mountain. It is our heart-felt desire to leave no
pebble unturned in our quest to build a monumental mountain in
tribute to a culture that has given so much to the world, and
has added such a unique multi-cultural stratum to the ethnic
